It was a long time coming, a 5000m high school invitational on the track in Southern California.  The first annual Beverly Hills High School 5000m Invitational was in 2013.  Although high schoolers run the 2 mile (3200m) race on the track, in both college and in the Olympics the event is the 5000 meters (3.1 miles) on the track.   What better way than to introduce high schoolers to the real event and to give them a chance to make the U.S. rankings.   The first annual in 2013 was an experiment, only having Beverly runners, but that all changes now.  The first annual saw Beverly’s star distance runner Sydney Segal win the girls race in 17:18 to have her ranked as one of the top times in the U.S. for 2013.  The inaugural meet was timed by Stan King, a USATF official (a Beverly alumni from the class of 1954). The 2014, 2015 and 2016 event was cancelled due to lack of interest and entries.

Whether there will be future Invites is questionable.  Those interested should contact Simon Langer at simonlanger@gmail.com

Results of 2013 meet is set forth below.
